Situated 10 kilometres south of Benidorm, Villajoyosa is a charming fishing community renowned for its colourfully painted buildings and gorgeous beach. One of Valencia's most stunning waterfronts is preserved in Villajoyosa. The charming little buildings along the promenade, formerly inhabited by fisherman, are highly photographed postcard images of the Costa Blanca.

The municipality is a part of the Comarca of Marina Baja and has 32,000 residents. Situated at 32 miles from the city of Alicante, it is sandwiched between the villages of El Campello and Benidorm. Elche, 49 kilometres away, is the closest international airport.

This little village, Villajoyosa, is the perfect location for anyone who wish to get away from the busy, packed towns like Benidorm. In the summer, a unique vibe permeates the wide promenade's innumerable terraces, bars, and restaurants. Perfect for lounging, strolling, sipping a drink, and taking in the sea and summertime.

The town's emblem is represented by the vibrant colours of its charming little cottages and its old town, which is submerged in the waters of the Río Amadorio, also known as Río de la Vila. This custom dates back to a time when fisherman would come to the harbour and try to quickly identify the house they were staying in. It has persisted to this day, and the locals have even managed to capitalise on it by using it to increase tourism.

King Philip II ordered the construction of new walls to be completed by the middle of the century since the mediaeval fortress and walls were out of date until the 16th century and because of the frequent attacks. The Iglesia-fortaleza de la Asunción, one of the most significant monuments in the historic centre and a designated Asset of Cultural Interest, sits at the centre of the old town.

Don't miss Villajoyosa's magnificent beaches. The city's beaches are one of its primary draws. There are fifteen stunning sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters spread across more than 15 kilometres of coastline. Some of the most well-known ones are Playa del Bon Nou, Playa El Paradis, La Caleta Beach del Centro, and Playa Almadraba, all of which are EU Blue Flag certified.
